Since you rifle does not have the HS prefix on the serial number it means it will not take the high speed .22 long rifle cartridges. I own a .44 Mag Rem/Marlin 1894 manufactured in May 2012 that had the chamber a few .0001'' out of round. The cases would hang up if full power loads were fired. Cast loads at 1150 ft/sec extracted just fine. The original chamber was cut with a worn out reamer.Make: Marlin. Model: 336 R.C. Serial Number: H53248. This rifle is a 1951 vintage Marlin Model 336RC carbine chambered in .30-30. BUT, inside the catalog, dated March 4, 1952 is a flyer stating that although the catalog pictures the grip caps, Marlin will discontinue applying the grip cap due to war work and shortage of materials.clem - you have a first year production .375, made in 1980. (subtract the leading 2 digits of your serial number from 100 to reach year of production: 100 - 20 = 80; 1980) the gunbroker posting, if the seller insists on the serial number being correct, is a rebarreled model 336, as it has the correct .375 barrel rollmark stampings..
