Open the hood and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. Wait for at least 5 minutes before reconnecting the battery terminal, then start the vehicle to complete the reset. Even if you tried to shift to a gear- that would send engine RPMs past redline--- it wont happen--- as the computer would detect this and not allow the shift to occur.
