49 posts · Joined 2008. #8 · Feb 18, 2010. i thought a backfire was from running too rich, which isnt as bad a running lean. the fuel that doesnt get burned off builds up in the exhaust until there is a bunch and then it all ignites causing a popping sound, usually when u let off the throttle after a full throttle rip..
